Join four of the world’s best composers and arrangers of music for low flutes in play-along sessions of their music. Each day will feature a different session with one of our hosts, all NFA award-winning composers and arrangers. Individual music packets for C and G instruments will be available to download and print for each session. You play along on mute with a pre-recorded video or audio of the whole piece, aided by helpful suggestions from the host of each session.
Paige Dashner Long will lead the Thursday session through her compositions Bach to the Fluture, Flutenado, Contrafusion and Dancing Dessert Suite among others. Paige is an internationally recognized flute choir director, contrabass flutist, and an Altus Artist. She directs the Metropolitan Flute Orchestra in summer residence at New England Conservatory, the Daytona State College Flute Choir and the Florida Flute Orchestra.
Phyllis Avidan Louke has chosen four of her original compositions for us; Beach Party!, Canyon Dreams, A Journey with Love and Elijah Rock from Four Spirituals. She has also included her arrangement of I Love My Love by Holst. There will be c flute parts available. Phyllis is an Altus Artist and is music director of the Rose City Flute Choir and is principal flute with Tilikum Chamber Orchestra and Oregon Symphonic Band.
Jonathan Cohen, whose business card describes him as the bald technical guy, will wow us with his compositions Love Letter to Sharyn, Tango Molto Basso, Legend of Llyn Llech Owain, Marshal the Metal, Valley Dawn and Big Flutes Happen Here. An electrical engineer by training, Jonathan’s chamber and flute choir pieces are performed regularly at NFA conventions and around the world. He plays on his contrabass Tiny with Flutes on the Brink and Flute Cocktail.
Chris Potter will be leading us through her arrangements of Funeral March of a Marionette, Corelli’s Adagio from The Christmas Concerto, Ravel’s Bolero plus her Tres Ratoncitos Ciegos (Three Blind Mice) and Beverly Troup’s arrangement of Moonlight Sonata. Chris was Festival Director of the 1st International Low Flutes Festival in 2018 and is the author of The Alto Method and The Bass Method. 2022 is the 18th year she has organized Alto and Bass Flute Retreats in the US.
